How we determine your offer.

Getting a car appraisal at AutoMax is quick and easy! They can be done in as little as 30 minutes, and we'll buy your car even if you don't buy one of ours. And each car we appraise is backed with a written offer, good for seven days.

Car market

Current market conditions

National sales trends and auction data give us a starting point to consider. It's also an extra assurance that we're providing a fair offer on your vehicle.

Car Inspection

Our inspection

We'll examine your car's condition both inside and out. Minor imperfections usually don't impact our offers, but major defects like frame or flood damage can.

Test Drive

The test drive

Obviously, we'll need to see if the brakes and turn signals are working (among other things) before making an offer. If repairs are needed, we may adjust our offer accordingly.

Your vehicle's log book

The history report is a snapshot of your car’s past, and an important part of determining your offer.

Q&A

Q: Can I get my car appraised online?

A:

The best way to get a fair and accurate offer is to bring your car to a AutoMax store for an up-close inspection. It’s quick and easy, and usually takes only about 30 minutes. One of our appraisers will inspect and test drive your car, and when we're done, you’ll get a written offer good for seven days.

Q: WILL YOU EXPLAIN HOW YOU APPRAISED MY CAR?

A:

Yes. If you have questions about the appraisal of your car, you can speak directly with the appraiser. Our appraisers can provide a thorough explanation about the factors that influenced your offer.

Q: WILL I GET DIFFERENT OFFERS AT DIFFERENT AutoMax LOCATIONS?

A:

No. Your written offer will remain the same at any AutoMax location and is good for seven days. If you'd like to get your car re-appraised after the seven-day period, you can take it to any AutoMax location.

Q: IS YOUR OFFER NEGOTIABLE?

A:

No. We make a written, no-haggle offer on every appraised car.

Q: Will modifications to my car affect the offer?

A:

They could. Supply and demand ultimately determines the desirability of any car or added feature.

Q: WILL REGULAR MAINTENANCE/REPAIRS AFFECT THE OFFER?

A:

Your car's overall physical and mechanical condition will have an impact on your appraisal offer.

Q: DO I HAVE TO SELL MY CAR AT THE SAME LOCATION THAT IT WAS APPRAISED?

A:

You may sell your car at any AutoMax location. If you're within seven days of getting an offer, a sales consultant at the location of your choice will be able to assist you. However, if your appraisal was completed more than seven days ago, AutoMax will re-appraise your car.

Q: WHAT IF I OWE MORE ON MY CAR THAN THE AMOUNT OF YOUR APPRAISAL OFFER?

A:

If your pay-off amount is more than the offer for your car, the difference is called "negative equity." In some cases, the negative equity can be included in your financing when you buy a AutoMax car. If not, we'll calculate the difference between your pay-off and our offer to you and you can pay AutoMax directly. AutoMax Car Buying Centers can accept cashier's or certified checks and certified funds. AutoMax stores also accept cash and debit cards. If the amount you owe is less than $250, we will accept a personal check. Our written offers are good for seven days, giving you time to get any necessary funds to settle your transaction.

Q: IF I CHOOSE TO SELL AutoMax MY CAR, COULD I GET IT BACK?

A:

No. All car sales to AutoMax are final.
